Using Easy Guitar Tabs by Taylor Benjamin
When taking guitar lessons for beginners, you may be asked by your instructor to use easy guitar tabs. Guitar tabs is short for tablature, which is a way of stating facts about the makeup of a song. The average guitar tab will include the chords that are used in the song, the key your guitar should be tuned to, whether a capo is used or not and will show the formation of the chords on the page in most cases. There are other ways of learning a song such as using simply the chords and ‘feeling out’ the song by simply playing the chords in the proper order along with the song. However, using easy guitar tabs is much simpler, as you are shown on the page where the chords change and what chord progressions are next.
Using the guitar tabs is easy, as most are set up the same. At the top of the page there is generally a description of the song along with the chords that will be used throughout. A diagram showing how the chords are formed for this song is normally included along with a diagram for the verses, one for the chorus and one for the intro. Beside each diagram will be indicated how many times you are to play this order. Some will say X2 meaning you must play through it twice, others will have nothing next to them meaning they are played only once. Your online instructor may or may not use tabs as a supplement to your lessons, as everyone has a different teaching method that works for them.
You can find guitar tabs for your favorite songs on many websites across the internet. Many of the older songs that were popular are found on most all sites, whereas there are only a few sites that offer more up to date songs that are currently found on the radio. If you know which songs you want, you can perform a simple keyword search and find many websites where it is available. If, however, you have no particular songs in mind you can try searching for “easy guitar tabs” and you will be rewarded with a list of many songs you can play. Try out a variety of songs so that you can get a feel for how guitar tabs work. Then, as you become more proficient, you can move on to more difficult tabs.
